HR Assistant
Location: Mbale Clinical Research Institute (MCRI), Uganda
Position Type: Part-time (20-25 hours per week)
Reports To: Chief Human Resource Officer
Position Overview
As a Human Resources Assistant at MCRI, you will play a key role in supporting HR operations and promoting MCRI’s mission and values. You will handle a variety of HR administrative tasks, enhance workplace culture, and foster co-worker engagement throughout the employee lifecycle.
This is an onsite position, and applicants must reside within commuting distance of MCRI’s Mbale office.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement workplace activities to align co-workers with MCRI’s mission, vision, and values.
- Process employment verifications, including background checks, I-9s, and other documentation.
- Prepare offer letters and contracts in compliance with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Spiritual Teams to organize weekly devotions and engagement sessions.
- Plan and execute staff recognition programs and events.
- Maintain accurate records, HRIS data, and documentation for compliance and decision-making purposes.
- Manage office layout, seating arrangements, and staff comfort initiatives.
- Support recruitment, scheduling, and interview processes for new hires.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure seamless new hire integration.
- Provide administrative support to the HR leadership team.
- Coordinate logistics for new international hires, including:
- Travel and housing arrangements.
- Visa applications and work permits.
- Cross-cultural training and school enrollments (if applicable).
- Facilitate facilities management tasks such as key access and parking allocations.

Qualifications
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years in HR or administrative roles, preferably in healthcare or non-profit organizations.
- Experience with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, and data management tools.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in record-keeping and document management.
- Familiarity with Ugandan labor laws and international HR practices.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
